Sub-Station

A sub-station is a key part of an electrical generation, transmission, and distribution system. Sub-stations transform voltage from high to low, or the reverse where necessary, so that it is easier and safer to deliver electricity to the end-consumer.

There may be several sub-stations required between the power station and the end-consumer, safely changing the voltage level in stages. The power is transported to and from sub-stations by high voltage cable and pylons.
